ACADEMY

Academy of City Ballet of Houston was founded by Mary Elizabeth Arrington and Luis Fuente. The school is home to City Ballet of Houston, an honor company of Regional Dance America/Southwest. ACBH’s affiliation with City Ballet of Houston allows its students access to performing venues such as Jones Hall, Wortham Center, Miller Outdoor Theatre, and the 1894 Grand Opera House in Galveston where the company has performed their Nutcrackers for the past 25 years.  Company dancers also have the opportunity to work with guest choreographers and teachers throughout the season.

The goal of the school and its affiliation with the regional company is to teach the highest quality of dance to the Spring-Branch, Memorial, and Katy areas. The school teaches all ages from 3 to adults. Whether you are a dancer wishing to pursue a professional career or are seeking to take classes for fitness purposes, the faculty at ACBH educates each student with care to provide proper training. With large studios that have the highest standards in equipment such as specially designed dance floors, we aim to provide an atmosphere that is both professional and safe.

Ms. Arrington brings more than 25 years of teaching experience in the Houston area as the former principal teacher of Margo Marshall School of Ballet. Mr. Fuente is an internationally recognized figure in the dance world who has served as ballet master for Joffrey Ballet, principal ballet teacher for the Boston Conservatory, and artistic director of the National Ballet of Spain in addition to his distinguished career in dance. Both Ms. Arrington and Mr. Fuente bring a vast amount of knowledge and expertise to the school and company.

ACBH is listed as one of lessons.com best of 2018.  Since ACBH was founded four years ago, we have had a dancers placed in Joffrey II, the PTPA program at Washington Ballet, New Jersey Ballet, Lines, and Sarasota Ballet.  The non-profit which moved with ACBH, City Ballet of Houston, has placed dancers in companies all over the world in its more than fifty year existence.  We have also had dancers place top 12 at YAGP, bronze medalists at YAGP Houston, and be accepted to the New York finals.  Our dancers have received bronze medals in classical and contemporary divisions at VKIBC, and top 15 and top 25 at ADCIBC in the classical and contemporary divisions as well as numerous scholarships.
