Intermediate Advanced Ballet is designed for students ages 11 and up. Promotion into the Intermediate Advanced Class is based on ability rather than age; students must be performing at an adequate level in Intermediate Ballet in order to be accepted into this level. Point work in this level becomes much more advanced and, therefore, adequate strength in pointe work is also considered before advancement into this level. Classes consist of either two hours or one and a half hours of ballet technique and point work. Students at this level are required to take at least six hours a week; however, more hours are encouraged. Students are also encouraged to begin taking Pilates classes at this level for corps work. Some students in the Intermediate Advanced level will also be invited to be members of City Ballet of Houston as junior trainees.
